This article focuses on the issue of the some British people preferring viewing programmes through the TV rather than tablets and watch TV more than using their smartphones. According to 2013 figures, British people are watching little more than three minutes a day on smartphones. The predictions of the death of the living room TV is unlikely to happen as there are 98.5% of average daily viewers through traditional set. This included three hours and 52 minutes in total.
In contrast, smartphones, tablets and laptops has an average of three minutes and 30 second a day which was a total of 15%. According to chief executive of TV marketing body Clay states: "New screens are making TV even more convenient for viewers and creating new opportunities for advertisers. But, the more we learn, the clearer it becomes that the TV set will remain our favourite way to watch TV – especially as on-demand services become more available on the best screen". This establishes that people are more likely to still continue watch their programmes on TV, as there are more developments such as HD.
Moreover, reports on this issue showed that viewing on smartphones and laptops was of catch-up programmes on services such as, BBC Iplayer or 4OD. Notably, Thinkbox believes that the rise of inter-connected TV has decreased the amount of viewing on tablets. This is because, more households are able to access on demand service on their television set and therefore they are more likely to watch television. To add on Thinkbox notes: "Some on-demand viewing, which currently takes place off the TV set, will move to the TV set, as that is the screen people prefer to watch TV on".
To conclude, I believe that many people are still using traditional sets to watch their programmes more than using other technology such as tablets. This is because, the development of new television sets such as programmes in HD, Sky+ has made it convenient for people to record their programmes instead of watching online on BBC Iplayer. In relation to new/digital media, it could be suggested that traditional media such as television is still popular amongst the viewers.
